Sally Crombie
Painter / Printmaker
I am a painter and printmaker. My artistic journey has been a rich one, spanning themes and also continents.
After completing a foundation course at Canterbury Art College, I gained a First-Class Honours Degree in Fine Art at the Manchester School of Art. For my postgraduate Masters Degree I attended the renowned Slade School of Fine Art in London. It was during my time at the Slade that I developed a deep passion for working in mixed media and printmaking which led to an increased demand for my work and to exhibitions in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Eager to explore cultures different to my own, I spent seven transformative years living and working as an artist in Africa. Here my art delved into themes of spirituality, cultural significance, and symbolic animalism, and caught the attention of individuals, businesses, and institutions – including the British Council, The Netherlands High Commission, and British Airways. I also participated in many sponsored community art projects and completed numerous commissions.
Inspired by esteemed artists such as William Blake and Edvard Munch, in my work I attempt to uncover the divine within the mundane and look for symbolism, connection, beauty and truth within the ordinary and the everyday.
My artwork has most recently been featured in an international exhibition based in Barcelona, and included in an online Saatchi Gallery collection.
